Smokers

The Sunday Age

We thought that in our search for a cleaner life all ashtrays had been turned into olive dishes and ashtray factories must surely be facing crises. Not necessarily so. Smokers can strike back with the magnificent Uno from Danish design firm Rosendahl. Launched this week in Australia, it's a proud ashtray designed by Paris based Dane, Helle Damkjaer. The minimalist shape looks like a big fat, polished stainless steel donut, they call it sculpture for the table. It's designed with non-smokers in mind because it conceals any hint of ash or whiff of smoke which disappear into its funnel, it snuffs out cigarettes and matches. The Uno is just the thing for alfresco, the wind won't swirl ash into the salad. Smoking in style doesn't come cheap, the ashtray for one is $74.95 and the party size or cigar capacity is $120 available from Kleen in Fitzroy.
