A NIGHT on the town resulted in two brothers appearing in Newcastle Court yesterday on malicious damage and offensive behaviour charges.

Brett William Davis, 33, of Kingstown Rd, Woodberry, pleaded guilty to maliciously damaging an ashtray and a window at Queens Wharf Brewery on July 22.

Robert Kevin Davis, 37, of Fennell Crescent, Blackalls Park, pleaded guilty to offensive behaviour and stealing a schooner glass valued at $2 on the same night.

Magistrate Mr Steve Jackson fined Brett Davis $400 and ordered him to pay compensation of $345 for the damage. He fined Robert Davis $250 for the offensive behaviour and $350 for the beer glass theft.

Police said in statements tendered to the court that the two brothers and a friend had been drinking before coming into Newcastle. Police said the men were well-intoxicated and were refused service.

They said Brett Davis threw an ashtray onto the wharf, which smashed, and punched a window.

Police said they saw the men were walking across a pedestrian bridge from Wharf Rd to Scott St. They said when they stopped the men Robert Davis was urinating from the bridge and had a schooner glass, which he admitted was stolen from the hotel.
